The ascent to the viewpoint is through verdant forests. You can take a leisurely walk to the top, and enjoy the scenic environs as you do so. The 3 km trek, is worth every bit the effort. The spectacular view that welcomes you is the cherry on the cake. The fresh, chill air and the panoramic view of the mist-covered lush green hills and the deep valleys, are stunning. 

Top Station

Just 32 km from Munnar, this amazing hill town sits at 1,700 MASL. On a clear day, you can experience a birds-eye view of the sprawling Western Ghats and parts of the Theni District, in neighboring Tamil Nadu. On a cloudy day, the clouds floating just below the hilltop, create a striking image, a perfect backdrop for your honeymoon photographs. 

Top Station is also famous for the Neelakurinji flowers, that bloom once every twelve years. The blossoms, turn the hillocks and the valley into a carpet of violet. 

Kolukkumalai

Kolukkumalai is a small hamlet, in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu, and just 35 km from Munnar, consists mostly of tea plantations, and verdant forests. A visit to the quiet and quaint place is highly recommended, especially while you are on your honeymoon. You will love the environs and the solitude. 

Though it is accessed through a bumpy, dirt road, the journey is incredible. The picturesque views keep changing frames – from extensive tea estates, colored in green, to waterfalls and streams, and of course, the mist, engulfing you. 

Devikulam

At a distance of 5 km, Devikulam is just a hop across from Munnar. Perched at an altitude of 1,800MASL, it can best be described as enchanting. The lush greenery and the misty backdrop are refreshingly soothing. There are a lot of exciting places to see here. For instance, the Devikulam lake, which is considered and sacred. Myth has it that Sita and Ram had bathed here. The intensity and force of the Pallivasal and Thoovanam waterfalls will leave you spellbound – the milky white waters, the thundering noise of the falls and the thick cover of trees. The falls make a perfect picture setting. 

Eravikulam National Park

The Eravikulam National Park is a wildlife sanctuary, a forest reserve area, home to many wild animals. Being a reserved forest, entry is with the permission of the Forest Dept. The department organizes jeep safaris that take you deep into the woods. Train your eyes to spot the animals lurking in the shrubbery. Lion-tailed macaques, different species of wild dogs, a variety of deer, elephants, tigers and leopards, jackals and mongoose, are some of the animals that you will be able to sight. 

Kundala Lake

This is one of the most magical spots in Munnar, that makes you admire the wonders of nature. Kundala Lake is your picture postcard-perfect location. Best visited, in the early hours of the morning, when it catches the first rays of sunlight. The gently rising fog, the shimmering waters and the green hues of the tree-covered hills, cast a spell, that makes you fall in love with the place.

The eucalyptus and the pine trees fill the air with their scents. And, boating on the calm waters of the lake, adds a romantic touch to your day. Hire a Shikkara – reminiscent of Kashmir, or take a pedal boat into the waters. Get a speed boat for thrills or a rowboat. Whatever, you do, click some pics, for posterity. 

Attukal Waterfalls

Sheets of white, frothy water, plummeting and roaring down the enormous boulders, spraying fine mist, as it tumbles away, is the best way to describe the Attukal waterfalls. The memories of these falls will remain etched in your mind for a very long time. 

Mattupetty Dam

Dams may not be your idea of an exotic destination to spend time, visiting, on your honeymoon, but the Mattupetty Dam is different. For one, it is surrounded by lush greenery – forested hills and tea plantations. Boating and jet skiing facilities are available for a small fee. And what’s particularly beautiful about the place, other than its scenic beauty, is that there is a chance of spotting wild animals. Herds of elephants and deer, wild boars, etc., come to the banks of the dam, for a drink.
